henry davis - 2 year update

henry had his 2 year check up last week. yes, I know, a little late, but right after he turned two we had a newborn so his 2 year appt was pushed back a little. :)
he weighs 30 pounds (75th percentile) and is 37 inches tall (90th percentile). he is a healthy toddler. when our pediatrician came in to examine him he said, "dr. s, you are a nice man." can you tell mom fed him that line a few million times in hopes that he would be happy during the visit?!? it was hilarious. he says something every single day that is so darn funny. what a fun age! he is still a good eater, although feeding your under 18 month child is definitely easier than a 2 year old. things he used to love he only likes now, and although I wouldn't say he is picky, he has much more of an opinion now. his favorite green veggie is hands down spinach. next would be broccoli. next would be edamame. does not like peas, brussel sprouts or salad. other veggies he does not like are white potatoes, sometimes does not like carrots and yellow squash and zucchini. likes most fruits. favorites are apples, bananas, pears, and oranges. likes all meats. LOVES tilapia and salmon - would probably like other fish too but we mostly cook just those two types. yes, we are still particular about what he eats. he's still never had a pop tart (to my knowledge). just tried m&m's and straight (non diluted) apple juice for the first time over the weekend (we have started potty training and are using them as rewards). everyone has their "thing" and his nutrition is my "thing." :)
still sleeping pretty well ... an afternoon nap and 11-12 hours at night. although, about 4-5 weeks after Owen was born henry started being an anti-napper for whatever reason. this lasted for about 3-4 weeks and was NO fun at all, for anyone. however, he has gotten much better thank goodness!!!
he has really started taking/spending more time with owen and is great with him 90% of the time. its so sweet. henry's vocabulary is really increasing and his memory is scarily good. he is still signing and enjoying the Signing Time videos. he only signs though when you work with him on it though-he'd rather talk. a talk he does a lot of, no doubt. it is bizarre to have a baby that doesn't talk since we are now so used to one who jabbers all the time!
henry is a delight. he is so sweet and loving. he is so entertaining. he is such a sponge and loves to learn. what a privilege it is to be his mother!

helping make cookies. Go Green! or, maybe Go White is better ...

sweet six.

this past weekend we celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary. thanks to mom and dad for keeping the boys while we enjoyed a long lunch outside at amsterdam and dessert at hamiltons (if you've never tried their white chocolate bread pudding, go get one right now! it is divine). what gorgeous weather we have had the last week or so! we had a really wonderful time.
here's to many, many more!

2.5 month update

people ask all the time if henry and owen look alike. if you saw the photos I posted not long after owen was born, you noticed they looked a lot alike. to answer that question now ... they still definitely look like brothers but are looking more and more different as time passes (we think). owen favors his daddy more so, but he still has his "own" look. we never thought henry strongly favored either one of us ... he just looked like "henry" to us.
here are some comparison photos of the two at the same age:
henry

owen (I can't get this photo turned properly-sorry!)
henry
owen
owen had his two month check up last week. everything is great. he weighs 13lbs 7ozs (75th percentile) and is 23 1/2 inches long (50th percentile).
henry's stats at this age were: 11lbs 4ozs and 22 1/4 inches.
owen seems longer/taller to us than henry was more so than he seems heavier weight wise.
his cheeks are really starting to fill out though! yummy.
owen fell asleep in his glider in this position. what a nut!
as you can see, he is not missing any meals, ha ha. nursing is still going just fine ... building up fort knox (this is what gary calls our freezer full of frozen milk) in preparation for my impending return to work.
owen is smiling a lot-pretty much any time he can focus on you or if you talk to him you will get a BIG grin in return. he is one happy guy. the only time he really fusses is when he is trying to sleep and his ever present gas bothers him. when he's awake it doesn't bother him as much. poor guy! our pediatrician said to give it a couple of more months to improve.

his onesie says "lovebug" - and he is just that!

wonderful week

what better way to spend a week than with dear friends that we only see once or twice a year! sue, adam and her mom came to visit last week and we had a wonderful time. in fact, I'm sad as I write this because I wish we lived closer (and have said/thought this a million times in the thirty years we have been friends!). thanks for make the trek down to the loveliest village!

silly gary
auntie sue and big O
our moms became friends when they were pregnant with us. here we all are!
we all went for a jog
mom and miss shirley had fun catching up
and we wore them out with all the little ones!
and little owen thought adam was just hilarious

vroom vroom
adam LOVED the hose. henry LOVED to be the squirter.

"hey adam, how am I doing watering this guy?"
"well henry, I think you could water a little more to the left ..."
adam also loved this putty knife. a hose, a putty knife and a dump truck. what more do you need?

henry cooked up an auburn special for our visitors ...
"what a funny chef you are henry!"
"what do you think of this southern food, adam?"
daddy jim met adam and of course made him laugh. we all enjoyed lunch at momma g's, our favorite place.
"oh doggies, where are you?"
come back soon guys! until next time ...
